Vale David Fyfe

Yesterday, a group of family, friends and colleagues said farewell to David Fyfe, who passed away last week. It was an afternoon filled with laughter, tears and toasts. David was many things to many people. To me he was someone who wrote postcards to his friends ‘just because’, knew his way around a vintage bike, loved watches of all kinds, had quite the collection of ‘man bags’ and enjoyed going to the movies with me. Long will I remember our Saturday morning debrief after seeing ‘Prometheus’. Many coffees were drunk that morning as we tried to understand how Ridley could go so terribly wrong. There was also the time he laughed out loud in the cinema in the middle of a solemn scene in Almodovar’s ‘The Skin I Live In’. That drew some looks. The first movie I ever went to with David was ‘This Is England’. What a movie!

David was a true one of a kind and quite the eccentric. He is loved and missed.

David Fyfe Trio

I thought about whether to publish this post on an otherwise quite irreverent food and travel blog. I decided this blog is a reflection of who I am and what is happening in my life and what better place to share a moment with friends. I’m sure David would chuckle to recall that ridiculous Ridley Scott movie. David, I’m afraid I have to tell you that he is making Prometheus 2.

Thank you for sharing this, Fiona. You’ve helped me better know a man whom I’ve never met, but heard much about. He will be missed.

What a perfect and fitting descrption of one of the most unique souls I have ever had the pleasure of calling a friend. I shed no tears yesterday as it seemed more fitting to laugh and smile as we celebrated this amazing individual. Thank you for these words that have allowed the tears to flow as I remember the way he loved his wife, his kids, his life. Cheers to you David Fyfe.

Thoughts with you Sam and family.
I was very privileged to have David guide me in my first few years of public servant life. Always ready with a joke or a confidence building remark a truely wonderful man. I remember fondly the bag and watch collections and that gorgeous honest laugh. Randomly finding this blog when I was unaware of David’s passing has made me laugh and cry. Thank you David for crossing my path at a very important time in my life. May your legacy continue in your beautiful little people and Sam.

Love to all who knew him. Sometimes blog posts need to deviate from the “norm”. xx
