O or Over The Top (OTT)
Nothing says Over The Top like someone in a rainbow balaclava and matching fringed coat with a whip in their hand on a Tuesday morning. I spied this reveller whilst wandering through Plaza de Armas (Huacaypata), outside Cusco Cathedral in Peru.

Strike a pose…
This parade is one of the many feasts and festivities on the religious calendar that spring up on a daily basis in streets and plazas across this devoutly Catholic country. You never know what will be around the corner in Cusco.

I would not want to encounter him in a dark alley at night!
A good Catholic boy!
i find this fella with the whip rather scary! he would give me nightmares for sure. but look at his funny sneakers. not so scary.:) One day I will get to Peru. Funnily enough, i was just saying that very thing to our friend who went there a few months ago. She said to me – yes you will get there – like the little red caboose I guess:)
As I said – just the kind of thing you see when your wndering around Cusco on a Tuesday morning. There were actually a bunch of them and not at all threatening. The thing I learned about Peru, is it BIG. Very Big! Well worth a visit.
What an interesting outfit and tradition! So fun to learn about other cultures. Thx for sharing! 🙂
Always something new to learn about. Travel is an eye opener.
The expression on the face of the little girl in the picture seems to sum up the scene for her. This is a very scary looking man. I wonder why the outfit and whip. Is he a Peruvian version of a mediaeval European penitent?
I hadn’t noticed the little girl before. I think you have it in one Stuart – it’s clearly some type of sinner/saint ‘Catholic Guilt’ thing. Sandshoes are a nice touch also.
