A-Z Guidebook: Zanzibar, Tanzania

Well here we are. At the very last letter in the A to Z Guidebook. If you’ve been playing along, you’ve visited many places and perhaps learned about some destinations. Thanks to everyone who has joined in over the years. We’ve had a few stayers in the pack. Chiefly Sherry from Sherry’s Pickings and Stuart from Nomadic Paths who have joined in on every letter. If you haven’t visited their blogs, you are missing out on their stories.

This month:

Z or Zoom

Ten years ago, I visited East Africa to celebrate my 40th birthday. To this day, it remains my favourite overseas holiday. Not only did we see some wonderful wildlife and another side to the world, but it started a new chapter in our travelling lives, partnering up with (our now regular) travel companions Robert & Bronlynn. After a few weeks in a cramped truck, bumping over bone jarring roads and camping in mosquito infested campgrounds, a little R&R was in order. The last leg of our East Africa holiday was a side trip to Zanzibar. Finally we could rise at whatever time we pleased, choose what we wanted to eat (I recommend the coconut curry octopus) and have hot showers. After a few days in Stone Town, we were refreshed and ready to continue our home ward journey and for our friends, onwards to Europe.

One of the reasons I love this photo so much (apart from the fact that we are all 10 years younger) is that though we often travel together, there are few photos of the four of us. A great memory that has endured.

After 26 months, it’s time to say farewell to A to Z Guidebook but not farewell to plenty more travels.

    hi Fiona
For some reason, I can’t add my link up. Even tho I have done a link to your blog on my post, it says I haven’t! And your own post doesn’t show up on your Home page either, just when I click on A-Z Guidebook. Confused! Cheers Sherry.

Now suddenly for whatever reason, the linkup worked! What the!? Hubby stood next to me so that’s what did it. I keep saying to him there’s a problem with stuff on my laptop; the second he stands next to it to watch me, it always works! Grrrr. But your Home page still doesn’t show your post, but I guess that will change too. :=)

Well I don’t know where all the rest of those slackers went over the past 26 months but thanks for sticking it out to the end Sherry.

Hi Fiona, thanks for hosting this linkup! I know I joined in late, but I’ve still enjoyed participating and reading everyone’s travel posts each month. Cheers!

I could easily do with a break in Zanzibar when winter arrives here 🙂

Couldn’t we all! I always new my last post was going to be about Zanzibar but it was hard to choose a favourite photo. I’d love to go back.
